Weekend Workshop

Better Scrapbooking had our Saturday night workshop this past Saturday.  We all had a great time scrapbooking, chatting, laughing and catching up.  I think I ended up talking more than scrapbooking, but it is really nice just to get together with other like minded crafters.

Well I thought you might like to see what I created on Saturday night.  for some reason my creative juices just did not want to flow on the night.  So most of these were not actually finished on the night, so I added the last touches yesterday and this morning before taking the photos.  I am pleased with how they have all turned out.

The first project I worked on was this gift voucher/gift money wallet.  I am very pleased with the end result.  It was probably the only thing I actually finished on the night.  Let me know if you would like me to do a tutorial on this project (just leave a comment below)

Next I thought it a good idea to do some layouts.  So I started with this one.
I have left space on this layout as I would like to get Grace to do the journaling for this one seeing as it is about the day I took her to give Archery a go.  I have titled it True Original as she is a left handed archer.

My next layout was this one Sink Trick
I thought it could be fun to do a layout of me.  So here is me having what my family liked to call a 'Sink Trick'.  This was done when there wasn't time for a full on bath or when they wanted to save water.  I was so little I could fit in the sink.  I did struggle with this layout but am pleased with the end result.  I think the pearl swirls have helped to finish this page off.  The scallop border was made by punching out heaps of green circles. (that was really fun)

My last layout of the night was my baby bath time layout.  Again I found it hard to match some papers for the photos so ended up using a cardstock and flicking some glimmer mist to make some fun splatters down on edge.
I think one of the things I really like on this layout is the sewing for the banner title and using a mix of colour and black and white photos.

So that is what I managed to get up to on Saturday night at the workshop.  Let me know your thoughts on these layouts.  I love getting comments.

Happy Scrappin' everyone!

Rock Garden as Promised

I mentioned in last weeks G&T newsletter how we had a friend come round and work in our garden for us at the beginning of last week.  Well as promised here is a photo of one of the things she worked on.
We had only put the rocks on the top and not down the slop as we didn't think we had enough.  But our dear Sam moved each rock and weeded then put back the rock.  She went and found other rocks and did this wonderful entrance to the house.

Sam we love it!

Distressed Tag

I took some time this week to be creative and try something different.  I had a play with the distress ink pads from Tim Holtz, Stazon in and embossing.  It was great fun and I am really pleased with the results.

For this tag I used Bazzill Straw cardstock and cut it to the shape I wanted.
Using Stazon black ink and a script stamp I stamped the background for this tag.  Even this was a great look.

I chose a swirl like stamp and stamped with a clear embossing ink and added clear embossing powder, then heating.

Next I used the Walnut distress ink pad and blender tool to give the tag a cool distressed look.

It was then fun to decorate the tags with hand made flowers, border punch and mini tag.  Lastly I added a nice big copper eyelet.

Really pleased with this and now want to make something else using these techniques.

Flat Tire

This week has been dreadful weather wise.  The rain has been just unbelievable this year.  So much for a summer, now it looks like so much for a settled Autumn.  We had three days of solid rain earlier this week.

My daughter Miss G and I like to go do Zumba normally twice a week.  Well on Monday I couldn't go as I had some paper work that just had to get done.  So when Wednesday came round, even though the rain just wouldn't quite Miss G and I decided we just had to go to Zumba.  We got ourselves ready and headed out.  We jumped into our Nissan Mistral 4x4 - also known to us as the 'truck'.  But when we got in, it didn't feel right.  I asked Miss G to jump out and check her tire.  Sure enough it was as flat as a pancake.  So much so that the rim of the wheel was touching the ground.

We realised at this moment that we would not be going to Zumba.  We went back in the house and I told Brad.  Now he had managed to get home from work earlier in the evening travelling on his scooter (in the rain) and was able to stay dry with all his wet weather gear.  Now that he was home and changed I needed him to change the tire.  So all that effort in staying dry went out the window.

For the next hour Brad and I worked on changing the tire.  We found a tarp and draped it over part of the truck so Brad could work and I held the umbrella.  He did get the tire changed and the spare pumped up too.  What an effort.  Finally once all changed he took the truck to the gas station to check the tire pressures and fill where needed.  We were both drenched.

The following day - which as it happened the rain stopped - and I went down to Firestone Kelston to have the tires check and he found no punctures.  So he checked the pressures and re-changed the tires around so the spare went back on the back of the truck.  He was great and didn't charge me.

But I can tell you changing a tire in the rain was no fun, as I look back on it, it is kind of funny.  Just glad we were at home when we discovered the flat tire.

I am now looking forward to scrapbooking this story and photo.

Coloured Hearts Flower Card

I was on Skype with my friend Kerri in Christchurch this morning when I challenged us both to do some crafting this afternoon and then share what we create on the Better Scrapbooking Online Gallery.  I thought I would also share my creation here so you can see it too.
I was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest.  This card was made using 12 hearts cut from varying shades of yellow, green, blue and pink cardstocks.  Each heart was then folded in half and adhered in place.
This was a fun and quick project.  I hope you can give it a go too.

Happy Scrappin'
